Brewery Ommegang’s 2010 Specialty Beer program is in full song

April 23rd, 2010

BREWERY OMMEGANG NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APR 23, 2010

Brewery Ommegang’s 2010 Specialty Beer program is in full song.

Three new beers have been released across the US, and three more are to come.

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) Ommegang is now well into the 2010 Innovation Program. Six interesting new Limited Edition specialty brews are being brewed, made physically possible by expanded fermentation tank capacity and a new warm cellar/ warehouse. The program is made mentally possible by reenergizing the attitude that we will not rest on our laurels. All beers will be released nationally, in limited quantities of roughly 2000 750ML-6 bottle cases, and an equivalent volume in 1/6 bbl kegs.

Limited Edition Beers

Released in Jan-Feb: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence. 7% abv. Updated and revised recipe, but still brewed with real chocolate.

Released in Mar-Apr: Ommegang BPA (Belgian-style Pale Ale). 6.2% ABV. 5 malts, 2 hops, dry-hopped. Citrus & tropical fruit aromatics. The beer was launched to extremely positive reviews across the US. Hoppy, refreshing, clearly Belgian-inspired, drinkable. The 2-month window is closed on shipping the beer nationally, it is on draft in Chicago into the fall. Label attached.

In release for May-Jun: Ommegang Tripel Perfection. 8.6% ABV. The result of a five- year flirtation with test brews of possible Ommegang Tripels. We now have it pretty well nailed down, thus the name, “Perfection.” Our Tripel Perfection is brewed following a classic tripel profile – a simple but strong beer, extremely carefully made – and then bolstered with subtle spicing. Label attached.

To be released in Jul-Aug: Ommegang Zuur (Belgian Flemish Sour Ale.) 6.2% ABV. A beautifully-made, carefully-blended, and well-aged sour beer, (it is aged on cherries) made in collaboration with Brouwerij Liefmans of Belgium. Complex, lightly malty, tart, ruby color, with just a touch of hops. (Zuur means “sour “in Dutch). Label attached.

To be released in Sep-Oct: Ommegang Belgo-Scotch Ale. Malty, full body, dark, around 7% ABV, slightly smoky, with heather notes. Flavorful and aromatic, with a gentle complexity and easy-going finish.

To be released in Nov-Dec: Ommegang Adoration Winter Ale. 10% ABV. Still really malty, still quite big, still decidedly spicy, but the spice profile will evolve from the introductory beer released at the end of 2009.

Exclusive Beers

Ommegang is also producing a run of six Exclusive Beers in 2010, available only at the brewery or by request and only for reviewing purposes. These are non-commercial beers, not for sale, with a run of about 100-750 ml bottles per beer. Ommegang Belgian Porter, known as Porter, Sorter is now available for tasting at the brewery. It’s a 6.2% ABV, Belgian/Baltic style porter: full-bodied, dark, aromatic, and flavorful. Moderately bitter, dry, with a touch of fruitiness from our house yeast. Our next Exclusive Beer is to-be-named Strong Blonde ale brewed with a blend of Ommegang and Chouffe yeasts.
