What’s Brewing?

Here’s what’s brewing away in my “brew-m” closet

5-Gallons of Belgian-style Cream Ale

Not really sure what to call this one. Bavarian Creme Ale? It is sort of an American Cream Ale and Patersbier mashup. It is the second batch of beer for our the Casasanto-homestead annual farmday bonanza. It is a cream-style ale brewed with Belgian yeast. I am hoping the yeast will not completely obscure the graininess of cream ale base. Either way, it ought to be good.

5- Gallons of Irish Red

Brewed specifically for the Casasanto Family Farm Day extravaganza. Irish Red Ale – emphasis  on the “ish”. I am thinking of calling this Everyone is Irish on Saint Patrick’s Day Red Ale. Deep down, there is an Irish Red in the heart of this beer, but it has so much more going on too.

5- Gallons of Joe-toberfest

This is beer I am brewing for my big brother, Joe. He is having some family over around Oktoberfest, and wanted to take a crack at making his own brew. Right now it is lagering in my brew fridge at just above freezing. Joe is a big fan of Oktoberfest beers, so I am hoping this recipe (which I spent a fair deal of time one) does the trick.

5- Gallons of Oud Bruin

Started August 25th, 2010

This is a long term project that will take about 18-months to finish fermenting. This is my first crack at a sour beer, and I hope to bottle half and blend the remainder with a second, younger batch.

What’s on tap?

5- Gallons of English Mild :::UPDATE:::

So my first crack at designing my own take on a style from the ground up didn’t go so well. This beer has evoked a number of reactions from, “It’s not so bad,” too, “Can I get some of that to try and kill some slugs in my backyard?”

Armed with some solid feedback, I now feel better equipped to try again. I just ordered the grain for the second batch, and we will see how it comes out.

As for Batch #1… It is chained up in the basement next to Sloth and Chunk.
